Paid Seat Terms and Conditions

For Seat pre-selection through bidding.

Passengers can reserve seats in advance through bidding on all flights operated by Kenya Airways under the following conditions:

  • Seat selection is subject to fulfillment once the bid is placed.
  • Advance Seat Reservation is only available on or after ticket purchase.
  • Seat selection may not be available for all seats due to operational and safety reasons.
  • Bassinet seats may be requested, free of charge, by adults travelling with infants.
  • Passengers with special needs requiring specific seating accommodation should  contact us so that we can assist in allocating an appropriate seat.

 

For Infants, Children and Unaccompanied Minors.

Kenya Airways values all our customers hence have customer friendly policies. Customers travelling with infant and one accompanying passenger in the same booking (PNR) are exempted from seat selection charges on all regular seats, bassinets and adjacent seats on a bulkhead row, and will need to contact the airline directly for assistance. However more than one accompanying passenger travelling with an infant opting to seat next to each other on a Preferred, Economy Comfort or Extra Legroom seats will be subject to seat selection charges and will also need to contact the airline.

Please note that bookings attached to an Infant will not be eligible to bid and if a customer would wish to buy or assign a seat in such a case they will be required to contact the airline directly or their preferred travel agent.

It is also important to note that we allow infants weighing less than 11kgs and are 26 inches in length to pre-seat on a bassinet seat. For infants weighing more than 11kgs and are more than 26 inches in length, reserve a “courtesy” seat next to assigned seat of the parent/guardian. This courtesy seat may be released when the flight is fully booked.

We will always aim to seat families with children together. If children travelling with adults wish to select seats before online check-in opens, they are subject to seat selection charges on preferred seats. Children who wish to select Extra Legroom seats can’t be allowed for safety reasons. We will do our best to ensure Unaccompanied Minors are seated comfortably throughout their flight. We advise you not to pay for seat selection for Unaccompanied Minors, as suitable seats will be assigned by our check-in team free of charge.

 

Special Service Requests (SSRs)

Anyone traveling with us on a Kenya Airways operated flight is eligible to purchase chargeable seat on condition that there are no Special Service Requests (SSRs) to their booking such as Wheelchair requirements, Unaccompanied Minors, Depotee, Infant and Stretcher services.

 

Family and Group Bookings

Special consideration can be made to families travelling together. Kindly contact the Kenya Airways Customer Excellence Centre on +254 711024747 or visit your nearest Kenya Airways sales offices. Kindly note that chargeable seats are not available for group bookings i.e booking with 9 or more passengers.

 

Code Share Flights

Seat selection is per every flight sector and the charges vary from one flight to the other. Seat selection is also possible on KLM and Air France code shared flights which are being operated by Kenya Airways. i.e KL1566.

 

Asante Members

All Asante member bookings made on Kenya Airways Operated Flights will need to contact the airline on +254 711024747 or visit the nearest Kenya Airways Office or their preferred travel agent for assistance with the seat assignment for their free seat assignments and any purchase made through bidding will be non-refundable.

 

Acceptable Forms of Payments

Chargeable seats through bidding can only be purchased online on Kenya-airways.com. Payment is via credit card processing, using the following form of payments:

    • Visa
    • Mastercard
    • Amex
    • Diners Club

 

        • Customers will be expected to bid at the booking reference level. That is, all customers on the same reservation must sit together. Customers wishing to split their booking in order to bid separately for a Chargeable seat should contact the airline directly to do this, prior to making their purchase.
        • The payment charges for Chargeable Seats will be done immediately upon purchase. This is for an Instant purchase. A confirmation will be sent to all passengers who successfully purchase the seat. The collection will be via credit processing, using the following form of payments: Visa, MasterCard, Amex and Diners Club.

 

For Refunds

        • We’ll do our best to provide the seats you reserve. However, we may have to move you to a different seat in case of a disruption, aircraft change, or for any other operational, safety or security reasons. Seat reservations are subject to change up until flight departure. Therefore, this service is non-refundable with an exemption of the above mentioned circumstances only and must be submitted after your flight departs.
        • Refunds will be processed in the currency in which the seat purchase amount was charged. If a foreign exchange rate must be applied to complete the refund in the currency of the originally charged amount, a generally accepted prevailing rate will be used. This rate may be adjusted to account for conversion and other charges that the Airline may levy. In no respect shall the amount refunded be more than the amount charged in the original currency and no bank-related charges will be refunded, note that refund usually takes about ten (10) to fifteen (15) working days to reflect in your account.
        • A seat(s) purchase that has been issued by the Airline cannot be transferred, in whole or in part to another person or flight except as specified by these Terms and Conditions.
        • In the event your booking is transferred to a flight operated by another airline, we cannot guarantee seat(s) purchased. In this case any amounts that you paid for the seats will be refunded to the credit card that was used to make the payment.
        • If you had purchased an Economy ticket with an Economy Comfort Seat or Preferred seat and later opted for Economy Max seat, the amount paid for the Economy Comfort Seat or Preferred seat will be refunded.

 

In case of involuntary changes to your seat due to operational, safety or security reasons, you are eligible for a refund or voucher worth the same amount for future use but this will only be applicable in the following circumstances:

        • Economy Comfort Seat re-seated on a Standard Seat;
        • Economy Comfort Seat re-seated on a Preferred Seat
        • Preferred Seat re-seated on a Standard Seat;
        • Guest is unable to travel due to *compassionate reasons i.e death or illness of the traveller;

 

Refunds will include the total amount paid for seat selection. For flights already taken, the refund will be compared to your last selected seat before involuntary changes.

Customers are not eligible for seat selection refunds if:

  • Economy Comfort Seat re-seated on Extra Legroom Seat;
  • Preferred Seat re-seated on Economy Comfort Seat;
  • Preferred Seat re-seated on an Extra Legroom or Economy Comfort Seat;
  • Standard Seat Selection re-seated on a Preferred Seat, Extra Legroom, or Economy Comfort Seat;
  • Economy Comfort Seat re-seated on a different type of Economy Comfort Seat (window, middle or aisle);
  • Extra Legroom Seat re-seated on a different type of Extra Legroom Seat (window, middle or aisle);
  • Preferred Seat re-seated on a different type of Preferred Seat (window, middle or aisle);
  • Standard Seat Selection re-seated on a different type of Standard Seat Selection (window, middle or aisle);
  • Guest is travelling in a higher cabin class due to involuntary upgrade;
  • Guest selected a lower value seat after buying a higher value seat;
  • Guest added their Asante membership number to the reservation after booking seats.
  • Guest made voluntary flight changes to their itinerary (including flight dates, inbound or outbound destination, or if their changed flight is operated by another airline).

For a refund, subject to the terms above, you will need to request for the refund via email and we shall respond to you. The email will contain a message indicating if the refund has been approved or declined and the amount to be refunded.

The Airline reserves the right to modify and otherwise change these Terms and Conditions at any time in its sole discretion. Except as provided for in the preceding sentence, no amendment, modification or waiver to these Terms and Conditions shall be binding on the Airline unless made in writing and signed by an authorized officer of the Airline. These modifications or changes shall not impact material provisions of the Terms and Conditions, nor the Offers that have already been accepted.
